The internet is slowly but surely squeezing the life out of the printed word, but there is something uniquely satisfying about getting a fresh new magazine in your mailbox every month. Here, in no particular order, are our picks for the top magazines that cover the Xbox.
EGM is the most respected videogame magazine available right now. Nice reviews and they even manage to break some news before anyone else.
Not quite as respected as EGM (not a cheap shot, its the truth), GamePro still manages to have a ton of readers each month. The main attraction here is that GamePro usually reviews games well before anyone else.
Game Informer is GameStop's pet magazine, but in spite of the massive corporate influence they are still unbiased and honest in their reviews. GI has a nice clean format that is easy on the eyes and the content, particularly the reviews, previews, and features, is always well written.
Tips & Tricks focuses mostly on walkthroughs and cheat codes, but they also have sections every month that cover previews, import gaming, and game collecting.
The Official Xbox Magazine has one huge advantage over pretty much everyone else because it offers a demo disk every month filled with demos, trailers, interviews, and more for Xbox and Xbox 360. The magazine itself isn't afraid to show a fanboyish bias (as you should expect from an Official Xbox Magazine) but it is pretty good overall.
6. Hardcore Gamer Magazine
Hardcore Gamer Magazine is only a few issues old, but so far it is looking pretty good. They cover a lot of the really great niche games that mainstream mags usually skip over entirely and they also have a nice section on import gaming. Check it out at
the official website.
7. Play Magazine
Play covers both games and anime and is undeniably the nicest looking out of all of the game magazines. Huge screenshots and a great format make it a joy to read. It is a nice mix of mainstream and hardcore game coverage that anyone can appreciate. Check it out at
the official website.
